About Me
Welcome! I’m Ray McIntosh, a Licensed Professional Counselor-Associate dedicated to supporting youth and families through life’s challenges. I have a parent in the military and grew up moving all around the country and world but spending more time in Texas than any other state. I recently moved back to San Antonio after obtaining my Master of Arts in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Midwestern State University in Wichita Falls, Texas. My experience with military life gives me a unique perspective; I have a deep understanding of the military lifestyle and appreciation of different cultures.
With a background rooted in community care I meet people where they are at. I see each person as multifaceted, seeking to find what works best for everyone and family. Most of my work has been with individuals with co-occurring mental health and intellectual, developmental or physical disabilities. I have experience working with individuals with a variety of mental and physical health conditions.
How I can help
I use a person center framework, meeting my clients where they are at. I tend to use behavioral theories such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) which focus on how one can change their behaviors through various techniques to promote awareness of self and surroundings. I adjust my approach and therapeutic activities to meet the interests and needs of my clients and tend to assign therapeutic homework, so growth continues outside of sessions. In my work I strive to create an atmosphere where clients feel heard, valued, empowered, and supported.
More about me
If not working, I tend to spend time in artistic endeavors. Some things I enjoy are music, painting, dancing, cooking, baking, dancing, reading and writing. With others I enjoy watching movies and shows and playing video, card, and board games.
