Hello, my name is Patricia Barrientes, and I am a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), a National Certified Counselor (NCC) and a Trauma-Focus Cognitive Behavioral Therapist (TF-CBT). I received my Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology from Texas A&M University – Corpus Christi in 2006 and my Master’s Degree in Community Mental Health Counseling in 2011. Since that time, I have worked in the mental health field in different settings including education, non-profit organizations, detox centers, the criminal justice system, women and children’s shelters and private practice. I really enjoy working with children and have been completing courses and additional trainings in order to become a Registered Play Therapist.
How I Can Help
Working with children and teens is both a rewarding and motivating experience. I am grateful to help them share their emotions openly, by providing a safe space and coping tools that work for them. I enjoy utilizing Cognitive Behavior Therapy in my work and I have found that my varied background has made me confident in my ability to work with children and teens. Throughout my counseling work, I’ve helped young people identify their strengths and improve on areas needed; I’ve guided them to clarify personal goals and celebrate successes. I enjoy seeing the people I serve grow and thrive, and it gives me confidence knowing that they will continuing growing and moving towards a better well-being.
More About Me
When I am not at Mind Works, I enjoy spending time with my husband, son and mother. In the summer time, we enjoy swimming at Aquatica and in the winter we enjoy barbecuing in the cooler weather. I also have a black cat that loves sitting on me and giving me biscuits, and a big German Shephard dog that keeps me on my toes.
